Ingredients

  • 500 g 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
For the Orange Sauce
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
For Garnish
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds optional

Method

  1. Prepare the chicken: Season the chicken with salt and black pepper. Dip each piece into the beaten egg, then coat evenly with cornstarch.
  2. Cook until crispy: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer and cook for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden, crispy, and fully cooked. Cook in batches if needed.
  3. Make the orange sauce: In a small saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, tamari, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Thicken the sauce: Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Slowly stir the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook for 1–2 minutes until glossy and thickened.
  5. Combine: Add the crispy cooked chicken to a large bowl or clean skillet. Pour the warm orange sauce over the chicken and toss quickly until lightly coated.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with steamed rice or your favorite vegetables.

Notes

Toss the crispy chicken with the orange sauce just before serving to keep the coating crunchy and delicious
