Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 1 lb 450 g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Garlic Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
Vegetables
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • ½ small onion sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method

  1. Marinate the beef: Place the sliced beef in a bowl. Add cornstarch, soy sauce, vegetable oil, and black pepper. Toss until evenly coated. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, beef broth, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, cornstarch, and water.
  3. Cook the broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli and onion. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and slightly tender. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the beef: Add another tablespoon of oil to the hot pan. Spread the beef into a single layer and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  5. Combine everything: Return the broccoli and onion to the pan. Pour in the garlic sauce and toss everything together.
  6. Thicken the sauce: Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce becomes glossy and thick enough to coat the beef and broccoli.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed white rice, brown rice, or gluten-free noodles.

Notes

Make it gluten-free: Use certified gluten-free tamari and oyster sauce, and check all packaged ingredients carefully
