Ingredients

For the air-fried sweet potatoes
  • 900 g about 2 lb orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1.25 cm (½-inch) cubes
  • 2 teaspoons neutral oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder or mild paprika
  • ½ teaspoon fine salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
For assembling the chaat
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped red onion
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup pomegranate arils
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind chutney
  • 1 tablespoon green chutney
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • ¼ teaspoon kala namak optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • ¼ cup fine sev optional, added just before serving

Method

  1. 1.Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 3 minutes. Pat the sweet potato cubes dry.
  2. 2.Toss the cubes with oil, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper until lightly coated.
  3. Arrange the cubes in one layer. Air fry for 12–16 minutes, shaking after 7–8 minutes, until tender inside and browned at the edges. Cook in batches if needed.
  4. 4.Let the cubes stand for 2 minutes, then place them in a wide serving bowl.
  5. 5.Add the onion, peanuts, pomegranate, cilantro, chaat masala, and optional kala namak.
  6. 6.Drizzle with both chutneys and lime juice. Toss gently, add optional sev, and serve immediately.
  7. Notes: Air fryers vary, so check the cubes at 12 minutes. Keep wet toppings separate until serving.
